I’ve been a fan of Manscaped since the launch of the original Lawn Mower, but even then, I didn’t use any of those early versions with any consistency. But when the Lawn Mower 5.0 launched, with its dual heads and feature-packed design, it changed my body grooming game for good (and for the better). It’s the most versatile and easy-to-use groomer I’ve tried. I find that not only does the finished product look the best, but the process of using it is both comfortable and fast. Plus the intuitive features—from the LED spotlight that highlights hard-to-reach areas to the fast charging via a USB-C cable instead of a proprietary charger—make it one of the most thoughtfully designed groomers I’ve ever used.

Design and Features
What I love about Manscaped products is that they are always designed with the user in mind and to solve problems that you didn’t even know other similar devices had . The Lawn Mower 5.0 is the perfect example of that. Sure, there are many great body groomers out there, but until you pick up the Lawn Mower 5.0, you don’t know exactly how great one can be. Compared to nearly any other body groomer I’ve tried, it is the lightest and most ergonomically designed. It fits effortlessly in your hand and the outer casing has only one button, so the risk of pressing buttons while using it is low (but not non-existent—I have accidentally turned it off mid-trim a few times). All the bells and whistles are smoothly integrated into the device itself without sacrificing the simplicity and sleekness of the groomer itself.
While Manscaped doesn’t disclose the exact RPM of the motor inside, they do say it delivers “constant RPM” which means that the motor doesn’t lag the longer you use it. I can confirm this is true and while I’m not sure about the exact power of the motor compared to other companies that do disclose theirs, I can say that it is powerful enough to cut through the hairier parts of my body with ease and without the need to go over spots multiple times. Part of that, as well, is the trimmer blade, which features a SkinSafe blade, that helps to minimize nicks, cuts and pulls while using it (it features a protective piece below the blade to help lift hair and protect skin). I’ve used this blade all over my body and it cuts just as smoothly on every area no matter how delicate it is or how much hair it has.
The SkinSafe blade design is also featured in the interchangeable foil shaving head, which to me is part of what makes this trimmer so spectacular. Many groomers, including the previous versions of the Lawn Mower, will cut hair close but not deliver a smooth shave. With the foil shaving head, however, you can get a baby smooth shave with the same device. I’ve found that trimming hair as close as possible with the trimmer blade and then following it with the foil shaver delivers a shave that’s just as close as if I had used a traditional razor and shaving cream, which I can’t say about any other body groomers that I’ve used. If you like a baby smooth finish, this will deliver it way easier than a razor.
At first it seemed like a gimmick, but I found that I love the LED spotlight as well. It helps to illuminate hard-to-see areas like your groin to ensure that you are more effectively (and more safely) cutting the hair. You’re also able to change it from orange to blue, which is designed to illuminate multiple skin tones for better visibility.
The other features, like the 60-minute lithium-ion battery, waterproof capability, the travel lock and the low battery indicator are fairly standard in groomers these days, but nonetheless welcome in the Lawn Mower 5.0. I also appreciate that, while it doesn’t include a charging dock, it’s charged by a standard USB-C charging cord, instead of a proprietary cord like many others, which allows you to minimize the amount of cords you need, especially if you’re traveling.
The brand also notes that it’s able to be charged wirelessly on a compatible wireless charging pad, but I have not tried that. The USB-C is more than enough for me. Overall, while it may not have as many bells and whistles as some other groomers on the market, the ones it does have make the Lawn Mower 5.0 easier and more effective to use and don’t bog it down.

Effectiveness
Like the previous versions of the Lawn Mower, the 5.0 features a single-direction blade, which is similar to the type of trimmer your barber would use. What makes it great is how effective it is at powering through even thick areas of hair with very little need to go back over the same area multiple times and very little risk of nicks and tugs (part of that is the toothed design and the SkinSafe element).
I will note that, unlike some other groomers that are multi-directional, the Lawn Mower 5.0 only cuts one way. That means you need to angle it correctly and change that angle based on what direction you’re cutting in—plus you can’t move it back and forth. This cutting style may take some getting used to if you’re switching from a multi-directional groomer, but I found that the learning curve was small and once I got the hang of it after a few seconds, the style became second nature. It’s a small price to pay for the sheer trimming power of this device. Plus, with the two included length combs, it’s able to trim at a variety of lengths.
What really makes the Lawn Mower 5.0 shine in the efficacy area is the foil shaver head. The trimmer head is top-tier for a trimmer, but like many others, it can’t cut down to a smooth finish. Even on the lowest setting, it leaves a bit of stubble (this is partly by design to help protect your delicate body skin, especially on your groin areas). The shaver head solves this problem very well. After trimming your hair down to the lowest setting with the trimmer, pop on the foil shaver to achieve a baby-smooth shave that’s just as close as you can get with a razor and shaving cream . I found that the shaver head is quick and easy to use—and safe on delicate skin like your balls as well—and while it does need to be held at a slight angle, it can also be used multi-directionally, not like the trimmer.
Overall, no matter what type of finish you like for your body grooming—trimmed, stubble or smooth—you can achieve it with the Lawn Mower 5.0. It’s especially great if you like multiple lengths on your body since you don’t have to use multiple devices to get the look you want. It not only works better than many other groomers I’ve used, but it also saves time.
Value
At $109.99, this is a premium device but also sits right in the middle of the market. It may not have as many bells and whistles as some more expensive models, but the features it does have are thoughtful, help to make the grooming experience better and absolutely justify the price. I’ve also used the Lawn Mower 5.0 for almost a year and it still works just as well today as it did the day I pulled it out of the box. If you’re looking at cost per use, the Lawn Mower 5.0 is absolutely worth the price. The convenience, efficacy and durability make this worth the moderate investment. There is also an optional blade replenishment plan that offers discounts to members, which helps save money on new blades and other products over time.
How to Clean
Speaking of ease, cleaning the Lawn Mower 5.0 is just as easy as using it. You can pop off the trimmer head (the same way you would if you were changing to the foil shaver) and rinse both the casing and the blade under warm water. I’ve found that there’s often no need to use a brush or anything—rinsing it under the faucet works perfectly. Let both pieces air dry before putting it back together. The brand recommends cleaning it after every use, but if I’m honest, I do it after every few uses and it’s just fine.

Given the overall design, the included features and attachments and how well the Lawn Mower 5.0 works at delivering any kind of look you’re after with your manscaping, I stand behind it as the best body groomer available. The mid-range price, while it may be high for some, is worth it, even compared to groomers priced higher. The Lawn Mower 5.0 is the total package and the only groomer I reach for over and over to maintain my manscaping.
